Since 2006, over $82,000 in endowment contributions have been raised to support the Simon Fraser University Lacrosse Program, through the establishment of the SFU Lacrosse Endowment Fund and the Christian Friesen Memorial Fund. To date, the interest earned on these endowments has helped to fund more than $16,500 in scholarships for SFU Lacrosse student-athletes.
The Simon Fraser University (SFU) men’s lacrosse program in partnership with Burnaby Mountain Selects Lacrosse (BMS), will be hosting the 10th Annual Maple Leaf Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 30, 2016 inside the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown’s prestigious 6,300 Sq. Ft. Crystal Ballroom.
Each year, the Maple Leaf Awards celebrate Canada’s national sport by supporting youth and collegiate field lacrosse in British Columbia. The first event of its kind in Canada, the awards dinner and silent auction ushers in the collegiate season by recognizing SFU graduating seniors, introducing the incoming freshman class, and celebrating SFU Lacrosse team award winners, PNCLL All-Conference and MCLA All-American league honors recipients.
The Maple Leaf Awards also acknowledge the Scholar Athletes and Individual Player Awards for the Spring/Summer and Fall rosters of the Burnaby Mountain Selects Elite Touring Teams.
In addition to SFU and BMS team awards, presented each year are the SFU Lacrosse Endowment Award and the Christian Friesen Memorial Award, a special endowment fund established in 2010 in memory of former BMS student-athlete Chris Friesen.
